Author Guidelines

The JAFESS Author Guidelines (Instructions for Authors or Submission Guidelines) aims to ensure that submitted manuscripts meet the journal's technical, formatting, and ethical benchmarks before entering the staged review process, from initial to double-blind peer review.

Journal Overview

Publication Model: JAFESS is a double-blind, peer-reviewed, Diamond Open Access journal published by CamEd Business School.

Article Processing Charges (APC): The journal charges zero fee. No other financial costs are involved, from submission to peer review and publication (see Publication Fees Policy).

Article Types: The journal accepts original research, including the following types:

  • Empirical
  • Theoretical
  • Methodological
  • Review
  • Case studies

Scope: Topics focusing on accounting, finance, economics, and social science issues, particularly within emerging economies, are welcome.

Audience: Academics, researchers, financial practitioners, and policymakers in the Southeast Asian region and globally.

Editorial and Publication Ethics

Authorship: Any listed authors must meet the authorship criteria. Any attempt to include ghost/guest/gift authorship will raise a red flag to the editorial process (see Authorship Policy).

Plagiarism: JAFESS implements a strict maximum 25% similarity threshold (excluding bibliography) screened via premium detection software (also see Plagiarism and Academic Integrity Policy).

AI Disclosure: Transparent disclosure statement at the end of manuscript of exactly which AI tools were used and how they assisted is required (see AI Policy).

Human Subject Ethics: For social science/economic surveys, authors must include an explicit statement confirming Institutional Review Board (IRB) or local ethics committee approval and how informed consent was gathered (also see Research Ethics Policy).

Conflicts of Interest: Conflicts of Interest statement at the end of the manuscript revealing any competing interests is required (see Conflict of Interest Policy).

Funding: Funding statement at the end of the manuscript disclosing any financial grants, funding bodies, or organizational sponsorships is required (see Funding Policy).

Licensing: JAFESS adopts an open-access distribution license called CC-BY 4.0, which allows authors to retain the copyright of their work (also see Copyright and Licensing Policy).

Manuscript Preparation and Formatting

Word Count Limits: All manuscript should not exceed the strict 7,000-word limit, inclusive of the abstract, main body text, tables, and references.

Language and Typography: Consistent spelling (either American or British) throughout the manuscript is strictly required, whilst footnotes and endnotes are prohibited.

Structured Abstract: Multi-segment format (up to 250 words) is required, broken down into explicit headers:

  • Purpose
  • Methodology
  • Findings
  • Implications
  • Originality
  • Limitations and directions for future research

Keywords: Between 4 to 8 precise keywords are required directly below the abstract.

Manuscript Structure Sequence: Authors should follow the following standard structure sequence for manuscripts:

  • Abstract (structured)
  • Introduction (including problem statement, research gaps, objectives, and a structural roadmap paragraph outlining the remaining sections of the paper)
  • Literature Review
  • Methodology
  • Findings/Results
  • Conclusion (including Recommendations)
  • References (APA format)

Citations, References, and Data Visuals

Citation Style: American Psychological Association (APA), 7th edition, for all in-text citations and the final bibliography is strictly required.

References: Every reference, where available, must include its direct URL or DOI. To align strictly with APA 7th edition standards, DOIs must be rendered as full actionable links (e.g., https://doi.org/10.62...).

Literature Depth: The manuscript must feature at least 25 high-quality academic references (from highly regarded sources) to pass initial editorial triage.

Tables and Figures: Tables and figures must be numbered sequentially, embedded within the text near their first mention, and must clearly cite their secondary data sources if not original.

Submission and Peer Review Process

Submission Platform: Uninvited Email submissions are not accepted. Authors must Register an Author Account on JAFESS to upload files following the Open Journal Systems (OJS) workflow.

Anonymization and file uploading: Upload two versions in Word (.docx) format, a blind version (with all author names, institutional affiliations, and email addresses completely removed) alongside another version with author details.

Processing Timeline: Submissions meeting the basic requirements are expected to go through the following stages with its estimated processing timeframe:

  • Initial checks: 1 week
  • Double-blinded peer review: 4 – 6 weeks
  • Minor revisions subject to editorial review: 2 – 3 weeks
  • Major revisions subject to another review round: 4 – 6 weeks
  • Submission to publication: at least 12 weeks

Responsibilities of Authors

JAFESS aims to ensure a professional experience at every stage and throughout the whole process. Authors are expected to collaborate in a professional manner too.

During each stage, authors are expected to:

  • Read and comply with all related JAFESS policies and guidelines.
  • Provide prompt response to any requests from the Editorial Team.
  • Take accountability for all aspects of their work, including providing clarifications and resolution for any issues that may appear to misalign with the journal policies and guidelines.
  • Keep all communications between the author and JAFESS confidential until an official decision has been announced.

By submitting a manuscript to JAFESS, the corresponding author explicitly certifies and accepts legal responsibility for the following:

  • Data Integrity: All raw numbers, datasets, and empirical findings are accurate, authentic, and have not been manipulated, faked, or fabricated.
  • Opinions and Interpretations: The specific conclusions, hypotheses, and interpretations drawn within the paper belong entirely to the authors.
  • Application Risks: Authors retain responsibility for the theoretical framework's real-world market or corporate applications.
