Principle
We are strongly committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity. To support these endeavors, ensuring credible, authentic, and ethical authorship of all the scholarly content is crucial.
This policy aims to provide guidance to content contributors, peer reviewers, and editors of the AI-created content.
For Authors
We recognize the availability of AI-assisted writing tools such as ChatGPT and Gemini. To maintain the highest standard of academic integrity, however, ensuring ethical authorship of original work is crucial. Therefore, the use of AI is permitted only for the following purposes.
Authors must include an acknowledgement statement disclosing each instance of AI usage, including the AI tool used and purpose, and place it immediately before the reference section.
Content detected to include text autonomously generated or created by AI is not accepted and will be returned for author’s review and editing. Prohibited usage includes:
Authors are responsible for ensuring that all submitted text is proofread, edited, and reflects their own original work. Authors should not list any AI tool as a co-author.
For Peer Reviewers
Peer reviewers are the experts with in-depth knowledge of the subject matter. They are entrusted with their evaluation of accepted work to ensure its rigor, originality and authenticity.
Beware that AI-assisted writing tools can produce text that is derivative, lack true originality, and many times produce hallucinations, and struggle with nuanced and authentic writing, which requires human intuition and imagination.
To maintain professional ethics in the blind peer review practice, and to prevent the proprietary rights of the author of the manuscript as well as the confidentiality therein, peer reviewers are strongly recommended against uploading the manuscript, whole or part of it, into an AI tool for evaluation at all.
However, the peer reviewers may use AI only to ensure grammatical accuracy, constructive tone, and clarity in their peer review report, in which a clear acknowledgement has to be included.
Nevertheless, peer reviewers are responsible for the accuracy, rigor, constructiveness, and fairness of their evaluation in the peer review report.
For Editors
JAFESS strives to maintain the highest standards of academic integrity and transparency in the editorial process. During this process, the editors are fully responsible for accepted manuscripts for publication in the journal.
Ensuring the confidentiality and proprietary rights of the author of the manuscript and ensuring the originality, credibility, authenticity, and ethical authorship of the content are equally important.
For that reason, the editors are prohibited from uploading any accepted manuscript, whole or part of it, into any AI tool. Neither should the editors use AI to summarize the accepted content nor to generate the decision letter.
In accordance with COPE guidelines and our internal policies, CamEd Business School and JAFESS will investigate any reports or observations of breaches of the policy guidelines, including, but not limited to, the use of AI and failure to provide a clear acknowledgement. Actions thereof include seeking direct clarification from the author, and peer reviewer, if necessary.
