As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • The submission is original. It has not been previously published, and it is not under review by any other journal.
  • The abstract is between 150 to 250 words, and concisely states the purpose, methodology, findings, implications, originality, limitations and directions for future research, and keywords (4 - 6 words).
  • The submitted manuscript is a blind version prepared in a Microsoft Word format and between 5000 - 7,000 words including references.
  • The text is double-spaced, using a Times New Roman 12-point font, employing italics for emphasis rather than underlining (except with URL addresses). All figures and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • Every in-text citation has a matching reference. Every reference listed has a corresponding in-text citation. All the in-text citations and references follow the APA 7th edition format. Where available, the DOI or direct URL for every listed reference is provided.
  • The text adheres to the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Preliminary Assessment


All submitted manuscripts will undergo preliminary checks to determine suitability for blind peer review. These checks includes:



  • The abstracts adheres to the structure format provided in the sample document.

  • The manuscript is free of plagiarism, as determined by plagiarism detection software.

  • The manuscript is free of automatic text generated by AI, as determined by the journal's AI detector, and complies with JAFESS's AI policy. 

  • Each reference in the reference list includes the article's DOI or persistent URL.


Submission Guidelines



  • Only submissions made through the journal system are valid.

  • The submitted work is original. It has not been published previously, and it is not under review by any other journal.

  • The manuscript is between 5000 - 7000 words including references. It is typed in double-space, using a Times New Roman 12-point font, employing italics for emphasis rather than underlining.

  • The abstract is within 150 to 250 words, and includes a brief statement of the purpose, methodology, findings, implications, originality, limitations and directions for future research, and keywords. Click here to download the sample structured abstract

  • 4 - 6 Keywords are provided immediately after the abstract which encapsulates the principal topics of the paper.

  • All figures and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.  Sources is provided below all figures and tables.

  • All figures (charts, diagrams and line drawings) are precise and numbered consecutively.

  • Clear sources are provided to support tables and figures from secondary sources.

  • Endnotes and footnotes are not allowed.

  • References are credible, relevant, and up-to-date, and placed at the end of the paper and arranged alphabetically.

  • British and American spellings are not mixed but only either of them is followed throughout the paper.

  • Author(s) have checked their paper for clarity, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and consistency of references to minimize editorial changes.


Editorial Process


To maintain the highest standards of scholarship, ensuring the quality, accuracy, and suitability of submitted manuscript is crucial. Submitted manuscripts undergo the following processes from submission to publication.  



Initial screening stage: 1 - 3 days




  • To ensure the submitted manuscripts align with the basic requirements as outlined in the Submission Preparation Checklist.

  • To determine whether the submitted manuscripts fall within at least one of the scopes covered by JAFESS.

  • To check whether the submitted manuscript is plagiarism free, including AI-text detection free.



Peer review stage: 2 - 4 weeks




  • Passing through the initial checks, submitted manuscripts undergo the first round of a double-blind peer review process conducted by at least two experts in the relevant field. The review can take up to 4 weeks after the manuscript is sent to the reviewers.

  • Once the review is completed, the author is asked to address all the issues and comments provided by the reviewers and to submit a revised manuscript. This process can take up to 4 weeks.

  • The revised manuscript then undergoes the second round of the blind peer review process to ensure the author's response is satisfactory. This process can take up to 2 weeks. The process continues until the response is satisfactory. 

  • Passing through the blind peer review stages, the manuscripts then undergo the editorial review process before publication.
